Burpees, ghosts, and goblins

Let's get fit ladies!

We are having a FREE boot camp if you live in Huntsville on Saturday at our normal location, Weatherly Elementary School. You are STRONGLY encouraged to get your costume and your workout on! I will be dressing up, don't leave me hanging. If you're not currently in boot camp, just let me know you are coming by e-mailing me at If you've never seen a full-grown man dressed up in a costume demonstrating burpees this is your chance! This is for women ONLY, sorry dudes.

Core exercises on the Swiss ball

You've seen the big inflatable balls at the gym. Usually doing the same boring old crunches.  Here are a few other exercises you can do to smoke your core on the ball. Enjoy my shaky voice.

Cardio for bad knees

Sometimes the spirit is willing, but the knees are weak. If you have knees that hold you back from running, jumping, etc... this will be helpful for you. Here are some 3 exercises we do in boot camp that will burn fat, work your core, get you a great workout in a short amount of time, and won't hurt your knees.

Tough guys wear pink

Tough guys wear pink, but only when supporting breast cancer. Otherwise you're metro.

Running is great for weight loss, heart and lung health, stress relief, and a host of other health benefits. You can run year round if you want, indoors, outdoors, up mountains, down hills, and all you really need is the desire to run. All that being said, I have a secret to tell you. I do not like running. Most trainers won’t tell you that, but I can trust you with my secret. I prefer to do sprints, burpees, jump rope, flip tires, etc… Just my personal preference, so you may be surprised that I signed up and got a team together (Bosom Buddies) for the Liz Hurley 5K that takes place this Saturday October 16. If I don’t like running, why would I do something like that? I am running for that 20 year old sophomore in college who just had her life turned upside down by a lump and is now living a life of uncertainty and fear. I am running for that 45 year old mother of 3 who isn’t worried about herself, but is scared to death what will happen to her kids if the cancer wins out. I am running for Liz Hurley herself, who took one of the worst things in her life and turned into an inspiration and a way to fight this horrible disease. I am running for all my boot campers who signed up to run 3.1 miles when many of them have never gone more than 1 mile, simply because they want to do their part. I am running for the brave survivors who are walking examples of what courage and hope look like. Most of all I am running for the ones who are no longer with us. So I am asking you to what you can to help. Run the race, donate money, or just come out and support the runners. Chances are breast cancer will touch your life if hasn’t already. Let’s fight back together. Go to

One of the greatest attitudes ever

I was going to write a message about the importance of a positive attitude. I was going to tell you about how life is all about perspective. I was going to tell you about evaluating what's really important in your life. That was my idea and then I remembered that somebody already said it way better than I ever could. If you've never seen The Last Lecture video from when Dr. Randy Pausch was on Oprah (yes I'm sending you an Oprah clip, I'm still a tough guy) it is well worth ten minutes of your life. If you have seen it, it is worth watching again. Ask yourself how tough you really have it. Ask yourself is weight loss or getting in shape really THAT tough when you consider some alternatives. If there is something you can't do, do it for your family. Get your mind right, to get your body right.

Help for painful knees (video link included)

What is this blue stuff anyway? How does it stay so cold?

So if you have experienced knee pain or your knee feels a little shaky or unstable sometimes, there are 4 exercises you can do just about anywhere and at any time to help with that. I thought about telling you about them, but I decided to film half of my face while I talked to you about these exercises. Basically you are looking to strengthen up the muscles surrounding and supporting your knee. The first one is really good because you can do it at work. Get in shape on the clock! Stick it to the man! Here's the link to the video:
