Building Block Four-Stress No More

0

When your body is stressed out, you WILL NOT lose fat and you WILL NOT build any of the lean muscle mass you need to increase your metabolism. Our bodies are hard wired to deal with stress first before anything else. If you have been doing all the right things (eating right, exercising, etc...) and not getting results, this might be the the key for you to start getting the results you deserve. This goes back to our days as hunter/gatherers when stress meant something with big teeth and fast legs was coming at you. That is definitely a priority. But our bodies can feel the same stress when a big project is due at work, financial problems are hitting you hard, etc…

It can also be a compilation of a bunch of smaller stressors coming together to bring you down. Look at your stress life like a bathtub. It doesn’t matter if you have the stress on full blast or if you have it barely on but it is steadily flowing. Eventually it is going to spill over and you are going to have a mess. You need a drain or ideally several drains.

Your job is to figure out what your faucets are, how much they are on, and find the drains to get rid of them. These are non-food/drink ways to rid yourself of stress that I’m talking about. When the food or drink is gone, the stress will come back ASAP.

There are hundreds of ways to manage stress. I will list a few options, but you need to figure out what suits your personality best. And find one that a few that you will actually do.

Here are some ideas to get your creativity going: go for a walk, hit a punching bag, listen to music, talk to a friend about your problems, pet a dog, do a hard workout, yoga, meditation, prayer, get a massage, start a budget, go swimming, go for a bike ride, take a nap.

Do something other than just internalizing your stress. You will be happier, healthier, and you will be able to get results much easier.

Negativity Detox Challenge #5- Call AAA and stop being a victim

Action-Alleviates-Anxiety

The challenge last week was to do something for someone who has no hope of paying you back. Hope you had fun with that one and got something out of it.

Your challenge this week is to do one thing to eliminate one major source of stress in your life.

What's the thing in your life that causes you the most negative thoughts in your life? That's what you need to attack.

No matter how big the situation is, pick out something to do. Start a budget, make a phone call, take a walk, etc...

Whatever it is, just do ONE thing this week that starts to work on the stress source. You will feel so much better just by doing one thing!

I am a true believer in the AAA principle.

Action Alleviates Anxiety

When all you are doing is worrying about a problem it becomes a much bigger problem. When you start to do something about the issue, you can begin to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

You become an active participant in getting it resolved, rather than just being a victim.

Do one thing this week to help with your biggest problem.

Negativity Detox Series

No-Haters-Button-(0992)

Let’s face it. We are living in a Golden Age of haters. TV, radio, movies are all chock full of conflict and negativity.

And then there is the capital city of Haterdelphia, the Internet. Which is basically a breeding ground for a super species of negative people who feed off of making people upset.

Quick tip- If you wouldn’t say it to someone’s face, don’t put it on the Internet.

So here’s is what I came up with to combat all the stress and negativity that we are surrounded with.

A Negativity Detox Program

One of our most successful programs is the 21 Day Belly Blast program that detoxes your body of processed and junk foods. That works great, but if you are stressed you will not be able to lose fat.

Chances are very good that you have a lot of stress in your life right now.  It is just the world we live in.

Over the next 10 weeks I will offer one challenge every Monday for the week. The purpose of these challenges will be to purge you of the negative influences in your life and replace them with new positive thoughts and actions.

To many of you this may sound silly, I understand. But if you are willing to trust me and just give it a try, you will be amazed at how much better you will feel.

First Week Challenge

Might as well start with one of the toughest ones first. When you are riding in the car this week, do not listen to the radio, talk on the cell phone, text, or anything other than drive.

A lot of the stress we have in our lives is from sensory overload. Stop what you are doing right now and just pay attention to all that is going on around you right now. AC blowing, radio on, people talking, lights flashing, etc…

There is a lot going on! You may not notice it, but your body does and all of that adds up. Give your body a break.

Now if you have to handle work or kid related things in the car, I understand. Do what you gotta do, but stick to the plan when you can.

The goal is to get 30 minutes/day of quiet time. You can do that at home or anywhere else as well. The car just seems to be the easiest place for most people.

Use that time to plan out your day or week, plan your meals for the day, pray, meditate, problem solve, or whatever you deem appropriate.

You will be amazed at how much clearer your thoughts are without Ke$ha blasting in the background. That 30 minutes a day of focused time can make a huge impact on your life.

I'm doing this plan right along with you. So if you need some support and someone to keep you accountable reach out to me. I will be struggling just like you!

I am looking forward to the next 10 weeks with you, glad you are on board.

Need to get rid of all these thoughts? Try Triple A. Action, Alleviates, Anxiety

Our challenge last week was to do something for someone who has no hope of ever paying you back. I was racking my brain on something to do, when my friend Ashley came to the rescue.   She directed me to the Be The Match registry. It is a registry you sign up for to see if you are a bone marrow match for someone who has leukemia, sickle cell, lymphoma, and other life threatening diseases.

Faucets determine your fat loss

Too much faucet, not enough drain

You are probably not a fan of being called a tub of anything, but all of us are tubs of stress.

What is a tub of stress? This is a mental image I learned from Racheal Cosgrove.

All of us have different faucets and drains. Your faucets are things that fill your tub with stress. Kids, money problems, relationships, etc...

Some people have more faucets than others and they are all on different speeds. Some of you have a few faucets that are slowly dripping or trickling in, while some of you have several faucets on full blast!

You know what happens when the tub overflows? You get sick, you have a mental breakdown, etc...

The key to managing stress is to recognize when you are getting too full and put in some drains.

Your drains are what you use to de-stress your life. Exercise is a good one, but can also become a faucet in itself.

So you need to find several drains to get that stress out. Listen to music, read a book, get a punching bag, find something that keeps you from spilling over the edge.

When your body is stressed out, you WILL NOT lose fat and you WILL NOT build any of the lean muscle mass you need to increase your metabolism.

Your job is to figure out what your faucets are, how much they are on, and find the drains to get rid of them. If you have been doing all the right things (eating right, exercising, etc...) and not getting results, this might be the the key for you to start getting the results you deserve.
